Numerous solar power-generation records were broken last month, with solar taking over from gas as the UK’s top source of electricity over the weekend, with a share of 27%.

Due to a fortnight of largely cloudless skies, solar initially broke the record for weekly output, producing 533 gigawatt hours (GWh) between the 21st and 28th June. Also during that period, a record breaking 75GWh was generated on five of the seven days, with output hitting over 8GW for eight consecutive days – a first for the sector.
