We take pride in our expertise to visit sites and resolve issues, whether it’s a straightforward meter replacement or diagnosing and fixing a complex fault impacting an entire metering system. With extensive experience across various data collection systems and meter types, we’re equipped to assist you. Whether you’re facing challenges with remote data collection or seeking a new solution, we’re here to help.

Our Commitment to Safety and Sustainability

Our team is supported by the latest IT systems, comprehensive training, and quality assurance processes, all aimed at delivering energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions as we move towards a net-zero future. We place a strong focus on health and safety, with one clear goal: zero accidents. We’re not just here to do a job—we’re here to do it right, with your safety and the environment in mind.

Site Surveys

Our site surveys enable us to assess the existing data collection infrastructure at a development and identify any issues hindering full remote access to all meters, as required by the Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations.

These surveys are usually conducted before we take over the metering and billing operations at a site, but they can also be carried out for project work if you’re facing problems with your current data collection system or are considering new installation options. Whatever the need, we’ll find the solution that works best for you.

Meter Investigations

If you suspect an issue with a sub-meter—whether it’s measuring heat, cooling, hot/cold water, or electricity—we’re here to assist. Our thorough inspection will pinpoint the problem and recommend a course of action. It could be a wiring fault, or the meter may need replacement.

Whatever the issue, we’ll provide a detailed quote following the investigation and work swiftly to get everything back to proper operation!

Remote Monitoring and Fault Detection

Our in-house data collection software enables remote monitoring of metering data, automatically flagging any issues. These are reported to you in a monthly review, applicable to customers using any of our metering and billing services, allowing you to take prompt corrective action.

For heat or cooling meters, addressing issues quickly is crucial to remain compliant with the Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations. Once a fault is detected, we recommend an investigation to determine the root cause. If possible, we will resolve the issue during the investigation; otherwise, we will provide a follow-up proposal for further work.

Annual Meter Reading for Communal Supplies

Energy suppliers are often unreliable when it comes to obtaining regular meter readings, which can lead to inaccurate billing, large catch-up bills, and delays in resolving these issues—creating headaches for property managers.

As part of our Energy Procurement service, we conduct annual site visits to record meter readings and submit them directly to the supplier. This ensures your bills are accurate and reflect actual usage, giving you peace of mind.

Heat Networks & Data Reporting

You can’t manage what you can’t measure

Data Flow from HIU Heat Meter to Residents and Property Managers/Heat Supplier

Our bespoke, innovative system enables seamless data transfer from residential heat meters, ensuring efficient billing, transparency and operational insights for both customers and heat suppliers.

The process begins at the heat meter installed in each apartment, which measures the heat consumed by residents in kWh. This data is then transmitted, typically through an mBus network or similar protocol, to a central device called a data logger, where the readings are stored.

From there, the network router transmits the data via the internet to an external management system, often operated by an M&B agent. The agent processes this data using specialised software, formatting it correctly for integration into the billing system. In cases where automated software is unavailable, this process can be done manually.

Once integrated into the billing system, accurate and transparent invoices are generated, with detailed consumption records for each billing period. This data is also made available through a customer portal, allowing residents to easily track their energy usage and billing history.

Additionally, the data can be shared via a client portal, offering property managers and heat suppliers a complete overview of their heat network’s performance and efficiency. This real-time access to metering data enhances network transparency and simplifies the process of monitoring system performance.

Key Benefits

With advanced metering and data reporting, we make heat networks more transparent and efficient, reducing energy costs for residents and streamlining operations for suppliers.
