Not all heroes wear capes.
As a proud Platinum Sponsor of this year’s TPI Annual Seminar, we wanted to do something a little different.
Some manage metering data. Some handle resident billing queries. Some keep plant rooms running. Some pull everything together across performance, compliance and reporting.
That was the thinking behind our theme for this year: Heat Network Heroes.
As heat network regulation moves closer, property managers and managing agents are under increasing pressure to understand what’s changing, where responsibilities sit and how to keep their heat networks compliant, efficient and resident-focused.
Our message was simple: you don’t need superpowers to prepare. But you do need the right people, processes and partners around you.
The four areas that matter most
Our Heat Network Heroes focus on the four areas behind every compliant, well-run heat network:
• Meter It – because accurate data is the backbone of compliance
• Bill It – because residents deserve fair and transparent billing
• Maintain It – because proactive maintenance keeps networks running properly
• Manage It – because oversight brings everything together
The characters may have raised a smile, but the challenges they represent are very real.
From stand build to show day
Before the doors opened at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, there was plenty happening behind the scenes.
The day before the event, the team packed the van, loaded the stands, battled the heat and somehow managed to get everything safely into the venue without causing too much disruption in the loading bay.
After a quick refuel, it was time for the big build.
By the end of the night, an empty exhibition space had become The Data Energy Heat Network Store – complete with superhero graphics, compliance resources, pick and mix, spin the wheel prizes and everything ready for a busy day ahead.
A few hours later, the team were back on site for final touches, photos and the all-important store uniforms.
Watch the highlights
From loading vans and late-night stand builds to familiar faces and great conversations, here’s a look behind the scenes at how The Heat Network Store came to life.
A busy day of conversations
From the moment delegates arrived, the stand was buzzing with activities and conversations.
We had the chance to reconnect with clients and partners, while meeting plenty of new faces too.
We spoke about heat network compliance, heat network metering, billing, resident expectations and the growing role of Ofgem regulation.
Casey Cole from Guru Systems also joined us on the stand, discussing how continuous monitoring can provide greater visibility across heat networks and support better decision-making through Guru PinPoint.
There were plenty of sweet treats, a few superhero moments and lots of entries into our prize draw. Congratulations again to our Spa Weekend for Two winner and our runner-up prize winner.
It’s fair to say our now famous pick and mix proved popular throughout the day once again.
We won’t point fingers, but exhibiting next to ChargeGuru may have contributed to supplies disappearing faster than expected.
But behind the fun, the conversations were important.
This year felt different.
Heat networks are moving up the agenda
One of the biggest takeaways from the day was that heat network regulation is becoming a much more active conversation across the property management sector.
As Daniel Davies, Technical Project Consultant, reflected after the event:
“Last year, I felt heat networks weren’t really front and centre of the discussion. This year felt different.
There’s a noticeable shift happening. Some attendees already have a strong understanding of what Ofgem and the wider regulatory changes are aiming to achieve, while others are actively trying to get to grips with it all – and that’s exactly what the industry needs right now.
The questions being asked were thoughtful, challenging and really encouraging to hear. It genuinely feels like we’re starting to move in the right direction.”
That really summed up the day for us.
Property managers already have a lot on their plates. But the level of engagement, curiosity and challenge around heat network compliance was encouraging to see.
Preparing for what comes next
The TPI Annual Seminar is always a valuable opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and look at the bigger picture.
This year, the wider programme covered everything from service charge pressures and building safety to competence, risk and the future of property management. For us, it reinforced something we see every day: compliance is becoming more connected, more data-led and more important to get right.
For heat networks, that means having confidence in the basics.
Accurate metering. Transparent billing. Proactive maintenance. Clear oversight.
Get those right, and everything becomes easier to manage.
Thank you
A huge thank you to everyone who visited The Heat Network Store, spoke with the team, got involved with the theme and helped bring the Heat Network Heroes to life.
Thank you also to The Property Institute for organising another brilliant event, and to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
The heroes may be fictional. The challenges aren’t.
But with the right support behind you, preparing for what’s next becomes a whole lot easier.
